Driver, 24, Dies After Crashing Into Parked Tractor-Trailer On I-95 In Branford: PD

Traveling northbound near the Branford rest stop at 3:15 a.m., the driver veered into the right shoulder and collided with a parked semi: PD

BRANFORD, CT — At 3:15 a.m., a car driven by a 24-year-old New Haven man veered off into the right shoulder of I-95N in Branford, slamming into a parked tractor trailer, state police said.

Josiah Lawrence Steinman was traveling northbound in a 2019 Nissan Sentra in the area near the Branford rest stop off ramp of the Interstate, according to a state police report. A tractor-trailer was parked in the right shoulder, north of the ramp, the report reads.

The Nissan Steinman was driving veered into the shoulder for "an unknown reason," and collided with the back of the tractor trailer, according to police. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries, Steinman later died.

The semi driver suffered no injures.

State police are asking witnesses to the crash to contact Connecticut State Police Troop G at 203-696-2500.
