Helping To Save Lives Since Age 14, Call FF, EMT Petrosino Dr. Now

Joseph Petrosino joined Branford Fire as a kid volunteer and over the years, became an EMT, FF1, then, college, medical school and now, Dr.

BRANFORD, CT — In 2008, then a 14-year-old, Joseph Petrosino became a Volunteer Fire Explorer/Cadet with Indian Neck/Pine Orchard Vol. Fire Co.9. Then he earned his Emergency Medical Responder certification and "began to learn the trade."

By 18, he'd earned both EMT certification and Firefighter 1 certifications. He's worked as a part-time EMT at Station 9 Indian Neck/ Pine Orchard, as well as Rescue 1 based out of Headquarters in Branford since. His volunteer service continued, albeit part-time, all those years while earning his undergraduate degree from UConn and then medical school at the Frank H Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Concurrently, since 2019, he was a research assistant at Yale School of Medicine and was a clinical researcher at the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation.

This week, the Branford Fire department celebrated now-Dr. Joseph Petrosino’s last day working as a fire department EMT.
