Skip Birbarie, the second-generation owner of the marina, told FOX CT he usually hopes to have everyone’s boats in the marina by Memorial Day.

But, this year, because there was so much damage to the pier from the harsh winter, Birbarie told Fox CT he has fallen behind schedule, big time, and is scrambling to get boats into the water.

Ice that accumulates during the winter’s high tide on the Branford River causes the ends of the pier to uproot just enough to cause trouble, Fox CT reported. This then causes the pier to shift, causing damage and requiring repairs, or even replacements.

Birbarie told Fox CT he is doing his best to get all of the boats in the water as quickly as he can to prevent his business from taking a hit.
