Obituary: Robert (Bob) Harold Dohna, 86, of Branford

He served in the USMC during the Korean War, worked as an insulator, and was a Branford Elks #1939 and Indian Neck Yacht Club​ member.

Robert (Bob) Harold Dohna, 86, of Branford, died on October 6, 2023 at CT Hospice. He was born on October 10, 1936 in New Haven to the late Harold and Dora Zesner Dohna. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Sparico Dohna, her beloved children Thomas (Linda) Massey, Monica (Brian) Sullivan, grandchildren Christopher (Amme) Massey, Megan (Brian) Hannon, Ryan (Sarah) Sullivan, Taylor (Kathryn) Sullivan, and Brittany Sullivan; great-grandchildren Vera, Payton, Paige, Leah, Ella, Keagan, and purring pet Cali. He leaves his sister in law Josie Eckle of the Villages, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. He had special love for the extended large Sullivan family. He was predeceased by his half sisters Doris Scholes, Marion Meeker, and Lorraine Savage, his in laws Lucille and Salvatore Pascarella, and most recently George Eckle.

After serving in the USMC during the Korean War, he worked as an insulator for Local 33 Heat, Frost, and Asbestos Workers retiring to Merritt Island, Florida only to return to Branford continuing to be a member of the Branford Elks #1939 and Indian Neck Yacht Club. He enjoyed boating and fishing on Long Island Sound. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul with a twinkle in his blue eyes to make you smile. Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 on Wednesday October 11, 2023 at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford. After a short service, burial will follow with Military Honors in St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Memorial donations in Bob’s name may be made to CT Hospice or to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.
