Ted Kennedy Jr. Tosses Hat Into CT State Senate Race

The Branford resident — and son of the late Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy — has announced he's running for the CT State Senate District 12 seat.

It's official: Ted Kennedy Jr. has tossed his hat into Connecticut's political arena.

The Branford resident — and son of the late and longtime serving Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy — announced early Tuesday evening at the Blackstone Library he is running for the shoreline's District 12 state senate seat.

The seat — which includes Branford, Guilford, Durham, Killingworth, Madison and North Branford — currently is held by Ed Meyers.

The Democrat, a Guilford resident, has held the post since 2005.

Last month, however, Meyers announced his retirement, leaving the spot open for a new shoreline politician to take the helm.

And so far, no one but Kennedy has officially announced they are running for Meyer's soon-to-be vacant post in the Connecticut General Assembly.
