Branford police are cautioning the community about a scam where residents have been getting calls from individuals claiming to be police representatives asking for donation to a "Special Event" for the Branford Police Department.
"The callers of this scam are specifically mentioning to write checks out for "Deposit Only." The scammers are also telling the person not to mail the check to the police department, rather they'll come and get the check ...at the victim's house," police wrote on Facebook.
