BRANFORD, CT — A fledgling robin just learning to fly may have gotten aloft well-enough, but its landing was rough.

According to Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter Director Laura Burban, Wednesday on Damascus Road near Walsh Intermediate School, a young robin landed in a storm drain, but it cried out to passers-by for help.

Braford's bravest to the rescue.

"Yesterday, we had a call come into the shelter at the end of the day about a baby bird stuck in a sewer. This little robin fledgling was learning to fly, but unfortunately landed in a storm drain," Burban said in a post to Facebook.

"She was screaming profusely and passersby called us to come out and help. Unfortunately, once we arrived, we quickly realized we couldn’t get her out on our own," Burban said. "So we called for reinforcements from our amazing Branford Fire Department. They came right out with the necessary tools, and we were able to put the baby in the yard, and mom, who was in the tree chirping above, could get to her baby easily."

"We are so grateful that you always help to save lives, no matter their size," Burban said of firefighters.

According to the Tufts Wildlife Clinic, it's normal for young birds, called fledglings, to come out of the nest a little bit before they can fly and fend for themselves.

This guy just needed a helping hand with that landing.
