1 Person Killed In 2-Alarm Apartment Building Fire In Bridgeport: FD

Three other people were injured in the Monday afternoon blaze, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — One person was killed, and three others were taken to a hospital for evaluation, Monday afternoon in an apartment building fire at 368 Connecticut Ave. in Bridgeport, according to authorities.

The blaze was reported at about 4:50 p.m., and as firefighters arrived, they quickly determined that a second alarm was needed.

"The Bridgeport Fire Department sends its condolences to the family during this difficult time," Tiadora Josef, the city's director of Public Information, wrote in a statement.

Four adults and four children were displaced by the fire, and they are being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to Josef.

The Red Cross placed the number needing assistance at five families — nine adults and six children. The Red Cross volunteers assisting the families were Paul Bankowski, Courtney Chapman, Jeff Sears, Nicole Brouilette and Kathy Wong.

Monday's fire is being investigated by the Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s office in conjunction with the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion investigation unit.
