The first responding police officer noticed two cars in the area that turned off of Milbank Avenue onto East Putnam Avenue, one closely following the other, police said. The two cars then split up and took off in different directions, and the responding officer followed one of them which fled onto I-95 northbound, police said.
The other vehicle, a Volvo, traveled westbound on West Putnam Avenue where it was seen by another officer within the Shell gas station.
