Bridgeport Man Sentenced In Federal Case Involving Methamphetamine Dealing

The defendant was accused of trafficking methamphetamine through the mail, according to prosecutors.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 42-year-old Bridgeport man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine that was mailed into Connecticut from California, according to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan.

In addition to the prison sentence, Michael Mihalko was also sentenced in U.S. District Court in Hartford by Judge Robert N. Chatigny to three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court records, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in 2022 identified several parcels suspected of containing controlled substances that were sent to the Norwich residence of Joseph Wilk Jr. and to a post office box Wilk had opened in Norwich. On Nov. 21, 2022, investigators searched a Priority Express parcel mailed from California to the post office box and found more than one pound of methamphetamine. Authorities determined that Mihalko had been tracking the shipment.

On Dec. 8, 2022, Wilk picked up the package and drove to his home, where Norwich police later conducted a search with Wilk’s consent. Investigators seized about 2.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, roughly 16 grams of ecstasy, drug packaging materials, two handguns and $1,740 in cash.

Investigators said multiple parcels suspected of containing narcotics were mailed to Wilk between May and December 2022. After receiving the drugs, Wilk delivered some of the methamphetamine to Mihalko, who was living in the Boston area at the time, and distributed some to customers in southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island. Authorities said Mihalko later admitted responsibility for sending the intercepted parcel and others.

Mihalko pleaded guilty in October 2023. He has been detained since September 2025 after violating the conditions of his release, resulting in the revocation of his bond.

Wilk also pleaded guilty to the same charge and has already been sentenced.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Narcotics and Bulk Cash Trafficking Task Force and the Norwich Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher J. Lembo and Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis.
