Bridgeport Man Shot And Murdered; Suspect Arrested: UPDATE
The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon on Lake Street in Bridgeport, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The following update is from Bridgeport police about the arrest of Nelson Garcia on a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of Steven Vega:
Suspect Nelson Garcia has turned himself into Bridgeport Police, where he was served with an arrest warrant charging him for the murder of Steven Vega.
Nelson Garcia is charged with Murder, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of an Assault Rifle, and Assault in the 3rd Degree. Bond is set at 2 million dollars. Garcia is scheduled to be arraigned at Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025. Great work detectives!

Original post: A 27-year-old Bridgeport man was murdered Saturday in a shooting at 242 Lake St. in Bridgeport, and police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect.

The victim, Steven Vega, was killed at about 4:30 p.m., according to authorities. He had been shot in the torso and the hand, and was transported to an area hospital, where he died Sunday morning.
"The Bridgeport Police Department offers our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victim," Tiadora Josef, the city's Director of Public Information, wrote in a statement.
According to a preliminary report, "there was an altercation inside the residence of 242 Lake Street and continued outside to the front steps of this single-family home."
Bridgeport police are calling the shooting an isolated incident where the victim knew the attacker.
Authorities are looking for Nelson Garcia, 47, in connection with the murder. Garcia's last known address was the Lake Street home, and police consider him to be armed and dangerous.
Garcia, who is Hispanic, is known to frequent Bridgeport's North End and West Side; he stands 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 15o pounds. He has black-colored hair and brown eyes.
