Bridgeport Man Wins Police Brutality Suit: Report

The man suffered a black eye and spent a night in jail before his case was dismissed, according to his attorney.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Shortly after the city's police department came under fire after an officer shot and killed a teenager, a local man was awarded a more than $300,000 settlement in a police brutality suit, reports the Connecticut Post. Anibal Diaz, 31, was awarded $323,000 after he suffered a black eye and spent two days in jail after a jury determined that four Bridgeport officers used excessive force during Diaz's arrest.

Diaz was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, interfering with police and breach of peace. Diaz's attorney Chris DeMarco said he was held for two days in jail.

Calling the award exorbitant, City Attorney R. Christopher Meyer argued that Diaz came at the police officer in an "aggressive and threatening manner," according to the Post.
