Bridgeport Sees Drop In Violent & Other Crimes In 2025: Mayor, Police Chief

The city also saw a drop in homicides from 12 in 2024 to four this year, according to officials.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport saw significant decreases in violent and other crimes in 2025, as the city continues to work to improve safety.

At a news conference this week (see below), Mayor Joe Ganim and Police Chief Roderick Porter highlighted the statistics, which include:

  • 37.4 percent drop in reported violent crime
  • 24.3 percent drop in reported property crime
  • 30.2 percent drop in shooting incidents

The rate of homicides in the city also decreased by more than 66 percent in 2025 compared to 2024, from 12 to four.

Helping with the trends was the fact that police department staffing during the year increased from 284 members in 2024 to 330 in 2025. Over the past couple of years, the department has embraced a community policing model, which has placed more officers on the streets and in other front-facing neighborhood forums.

"The quality of life is improving by leaps and bounds in Bridgeport with these numbers," Ganim said.
