Charges Filed Against Suspect In Attack On Bridgeport Mother, Children

The conditions of two of the three victims have been upgraded, according to authorities.

Charges have been filed against Bridgeport resident Abdulrahim Sulaiman, who is accused of attacking a mother and her two children, ages 6 and 4, this week on Main Street in Bridgeport, according to police. The three victims suffered serious injuries.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Attempted murder charges have been filed against Bridgeport resident Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, who police said attacked a mother and her two children in a domestic violence incident Wednesday on Main Street in Bridgeport.

Sulaiman, who was taken into custody soon after the Wednesday morning assault, was charged with the following:

  • Criminal Attempt - Murder (3 counts)
  • Assault in the 1st Degree (3 counts)
  • Risk of Injury to a Child (2 counts)
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm (convicted felon)

He is being held without bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Thursday.

According to Bridgeport police, the 6-year-old child that Sulaiman is accused of attacking remains in critical condition, but the conditions of the 4-year-old child, and their 33-year-old mother, have been upgraded to stable.

Sulaiman was seen walking away from the scene before his capture by police.

"Facts and circumstances in this case indicate all three victims were brutally assaulted by the suspect detained by police outside the apartment," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran in a statement.

Gilleran added, "The Bridgeport Police Department’s thoughts and prayers are with this young family."
