Bridgeport Cops Nab Suspect In String of Store Burglaries

The same store in downtown Bridgeport has been vandalized and burglarized several times in recent months, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 46-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested early Wednesday in connection with a vandalism and burglary incident at a downtown store, and Bridgeport police believe the suspect could be responsible for several similar incidents at the same store.

Officers were dispatched to Jimmy's Footwear & Clothing, at 1000 Main St., at around 1 a.m. on a report of property damage at the store, and spoke with owner, Dave Schneider, who provided police with a photograph of the suspect.

Officers canvassed the area and located a man matching the suspect’s description near Fairfield Avenue and Seely Street. The individual, identified as Bridgeport resident Michael Young, was riding a white and purple bicycle at the time, according to authorities.

Police said Young initially refused officers’ commands but was detained without further incident in the 800 block of Fairfield Avenue.

A search of his belongings allegedly turned up a black Nautica jacket, along with black jean shorts and a hoodie that still had retail tags attached. Schneider later confirmed the clothing items had been stolen from his store and positively identified Young as the suspect.
