Attempted Murder Charge For Suspect In Bridgeport Hostage Case: Update

The suspect is wanted in multiple states, according to Bridgeport police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 27-year-old man, described by police as a "dangerous felon" wanted in multiple states, was arrested Wednesday in Bridgeport after allegedly holding a woman captive and chasing her with a knife, according to authorities.

Nicholas Allwood was taken into custody around 1:30 p.m. after a woman fled a residence on Gregory Street and was pursued by Allwood, Bridgeport police said. Officers, who had been preparing to enter the home in search of Allwood, did not initially know the woman was being held against her will. She was not injured.

Police said they were able to disarm Allwood without incident. He was charged with the following:

Allwood is also a suspect in a stabbing that occurred two hours earlier on Hanover Street and in a separate stabbing several weeks ago on State Street, police said. The Bridgeport Police Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant in connection with that incident, charging him with attempted murder.

Authorities said Allwood has extraditable felony warrants from multiple states, including an attempted murder charge in New York and a federal warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is also wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In addition to the local charges, Allwood was charged with four counts of being a fugitive from justice. His total bond was set at $2.25 million.

According to police, Allwood had been using an alias while staying in Bridgeport. Officers had been searching for him for approximately a week prior to Wednesday’s arrest.

At the time of his arrest on Wednesday, Allwood was wanted on an attempted murder warrant out of New York and a felon in possession of a weapon warrant from the United States Marshals Service. He was also wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement out of New York.

The arrest involved multiple agencies, including the Bridgeport Police Department, Connecticut State Police, and an FBI task force.
