Girl, 12, Struck, Seriously Injured By Vehicle In Bridgeport: Police

The crash occurred Monday evening, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured Monday when she was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Park Avenue and Wade Street in Bridgeport, according to police.

The crash occurred just after 5 p.m., and the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police, according to Shawnna White, Bridgeport's Public Information Officer.

"After a preliminary investigation, it was revealed a 12-year-old Bridgeport resident was at the intersection of Park Avenue and Chalmers Avenue," said Bridgeport Police Sgt. Darryl Wilson in a statement. "The 12-year-old pedestrian attempted to cross Park Avenue from the northbound side, and she was struck by a gray Nissan traveling south on Park Avenue. The gray Nissan was being operated by a 55-year-old Fairfield resident."

The driver was not injured, according to Wilson.

Later Monday evening, the girl's condition was listed as critical but stable.

"The female pedestrian was responsive and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries," White said in a statement.

Park Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions between Eaton Street and Beach Place while the crash was being investigated, but it has since been reopened.
