Identity Released Of Victim Fatally Shot In Bridgeport: Police

The 48-year-old man was killed on Jan. 9 on Hewitt Street, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The 48-year-old Bridgeport man, who was shot and killed on Jan. 9, has been identified, according to Bridgeport police.

Derek Martin was shot during an altercation in front of his Hewitt Street home at about 5 p.m., police said.

Martin suffered gunshot wounds to the torso, and was transported by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital, where he died a short while later.

Bridgeport police said Martin knew his attacker. No arrest has been made in connection with the shooting, but police said that detectives "have developed strong leads in the case."

The Bridgeport Police Department is asking for the public's help in solving this crime, and urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the case officer, Detective Thomas Harper, at 203-581-5239.
