Wendy Alice Ryan, 60 of Bridgeport, the beloved wife of Martin P. Ryan, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. She was born in Port Chester, NY and was the cherished daughter of the late Alan and Charlotte Pirrie.

Wendy grew up in Fairfield and received her BA from Eastern Connecticut State University and an MA from Sacred Heart University. Wendy was a beloved English teacher for over 25 years and touched the lives of many students in Bridgeport, Ansonia and Bethel.

Wendy enjoyed art in all its forms including photography, poetry and film. Whenever possible, she sought live music from dancing barefoot with the Grateful Dead to dressing up for the opera. She loved to spend her school breaks traveling and was especially fond of visiting family in Scotland. Wendy had compassion for all animals and always had at least one canine companion. She could most often be found digging in her garden.

In addition to her husband Marty, Wendy is survived by her children, Jacob Ryan and his wife, Julie and Alice Ryan and her spouse, Shannon Carter. She will be missed by her siblings, Robert Pirrie and his wife Jen Stone, Sharon Cosek and Lorna Pirrie and her partner Alec Duthie; as
well as her nephews, Jim Pirrie and John Heady; and many other relatives, friends and colleagues.

Friends may greet her family on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
