BROOKFIELD, CT — Barbara A. (Peters) Parente, 85, of Brookfield, beloved wife of the late Alfred Parente, died on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023 at Maplewood of Newtown. She was born on Jan. 23, 1938 in Allentown, PA, daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Steckel) Peters.

Along with her husband, Al, Barbara owned and operated Down the Hatch restaurant on Candlewood Lake, for 43 years. Their legacy continues with their children, Scott and Krista.
Barbara loved horses and enjoyed showing and breeding her horses.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Scott Parente and his wife Kim; her daughter, Krista Parente; her grandchildren, Courtney Greiter and her husband Chad, and Amanda Feeley and her husband David; her step-grandchildren, Drew, Ray, and Sean Gori; her great grandchildren, Madison and Olivia Greiter; her step-great grandchildren, Dante and Mace Gori; and her former daughter-in-law, Patricia Blood-Parente.

She was predeceased by her son, Douglas Parente.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 5th in Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Brookfield at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the America Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
