Brookfield, Bethel And Newtown Police Launch Youth Cadet Program

BROOKFIELD, CT — The police departments of Brookfield, Bethel and Newtown are partnering to offer a law enforcement cadet program aimed at youths interested in police work.

The initiative operates under the North East Regional Law Enforcement Educational Association (NERLEEA) and will be overseen by the Newtown Police Department, with support from officers in Brookfield and Bethel. The program is open to young people ages 13 to 20 with no prior arrests and a commitment to a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle.

Designed to educate and prepare participants for careers in law enforcement, the cadet program offers training opportunities throughout the year, including a police academy, tactical challenge events, leadership development sessions and hands-on skill training. Cadets also assist with community events and may participate in officer ride-alongs.

Weekly meetings are held Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newtown Police Department, located at 191 South Main Street.
