Brookfield Craft Center Features Art from Local HS Students

The First Annual High School Student Art Show recognizes talent across multiple media.

Brookfield, CT - The Brookfield Craft Center’s Studio Gallery will showcase local artists in its first annual High School Student Art Exhibit from March 12-April 2, 2016. Works from over 75 students from local high schools will display their work in a wide-range of media including ceramics, video, painting, photography, and more. The show is a juried event and awards will be given across media and for best-in-show. An opening reception with refreshments on March 12th from 5-8pm will give the community an opportunity to recognize and meet the artists and awardees.

“Young students are a core focus at the Center as we expand and grow,” said Executive Director Howard Lasser. “Our opportunity to recognize emerging talent and creativity through an annual event helps support local art programs and introduces a wider audience to the Craft Center community. We’re excited about the response from our schools and are amazed by the quality of the work submitted. I hope everyone comes out to see the art our talented kids are creating.”

Artists were invited to participate by their schools, but specific art classes and programs were not required for consideration. A jury of noted community members, artists, and educators evaluated all the submissions and finalists in making the awards.

Over the last year, the Brookfield Craft Center has expanded programs for youth through the growing “Hands-On Art” summer camps, special events from Scouts, and internships with local students.

The Brookfield Craft Center was founded in 1954 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) center to promote personal growth through experience and interest in fine hand craft. The campus is situated on 2.5 acres along the Still River and is comprised of 7 studios in six historic buildings dating back to the 18th century. BCC currently teaches students and artists in pottery, jewelry making, glass fusing, lamp work (Venetian glass beads), blacksmithing, fiber arts and wood turning. The Craft Center also supports artists through sales of local and national artists’ works in our retail gallery.
