Brookfield Museum Hosts Summer Yanks Exhibit
The Brookfield Museum will debut the summer exhibit to commemorate the 100th anniversary of America's participation in World War I.
From The Brookfield Museum: The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will host its Summer Exhibit The Yanks Are Coming to commemorate the 100th anniversary of America’s participation in World War I. The Exhibit’s grand opening is on Saturday, May 13, 2107 from noon to 4 PM. Admission is free and complimentary refreshments will be served on opening day.
The Museum is located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 133 in Brookfield Center. The exhibition will continue each Saturday from Noon to 4 P.M. until further notice. It will also be open Sunday, May 28 th in conjunction with the Brookfield town wide Memorial Day Parade.
The exhibit will feature a huge display of original WWI artifacts to include uniforms, field gear, posters, photographs, medals, insignias, weaponry, helmets, wartime sweetheart items, postcards, gas masks and more. In addition a special section will feature Brookfield on the warfront and the home front during the conflict. Photographs of WWI veterans whose descendants live in Brookfield can be seen. Graphics and pictures capturing war time images will explain the conflict, its causes and long term effects, the American Expeditionary Force and new advancements in weaponry. The sounds of songs popular during the war can be heard. For the kids there is a WWI scavenger hunt and trivia game and they can dress up in an original American doughboy soldier uniform and helmet. The exhibit provides a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to gain a greater insight into this important chapter in our American History.
