Brookfield Schedules Public Hearing On 2025 Plan of Conservation and Development

Brookfield will hold a public hearing Aug. 12 on its Draft 2025 Plan of Conservation and Development at BHS Auditorium.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Town of Brookfield will hold a public hearing on Aug. 12 to gather public input on its Draft 2025 Plan of Conservation and Development, a state-mandated document that guides future land use, zoning, infrastructure, and community development.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Brookfield High School Auditorium. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide feedback on the draft, which is available online here, on the town website, and in print at the Town Clerk’s office and the Land Use Department.

The Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) is a long-term policy document that municipalities in Connecticut are required by state law to update every 10 years. Brookfield’s most recent POCD was adopted in 2015 and amended in 2016.

The updated plan presents a strategic vision and actionable recommendations for land use boards, elected officials, and municipal staff. It includes analysis of demographic and development trends, identifies community priorities, and covers key areas such as transportation, housing, economic development, infrastructure, and environmental resources.

The Brookfield Planning Commission began working on the POCD update in early 2024. A POCD Core Subcommittee—comprising members of the Planning, Zoning, Conservation, and Economic Development Commissions—contributed to drafting the chapters released to the public beginning in February.

To support public engagement, the town hosted workshops on Nov. 21, 2024, and April 22, 2025. A town-wide survey was also conducted from January through February to solicit community input.

The town’s POCD process is intended to reflect current conditions and guide Brookfield’s growth and development over the next decade.
