Brookfield School District Denies Bivona's Allegations in Court

Former Superintendent Tony Bivona filed a lawsuit contending he was improperly fired, which the school district formally denied in court.

The Brookfield School District formally denied allegations former Superintendent Tony Bivona made regarding his October 2014 termination.

Recently filed court documents indicated that the school district’s attorneys rejected Bivona’s seven-page complaint which alleged that he was improperly fired, reports NewsTimes.

Bivona claimed the school board secretly decided to fire him before termination hearings took place, which the school’s district attorneys denied, according to NewsTimes. The board also denied that the hearings were held in public to damage the plaintiff’s reputation, NewsTimes reported.

Bivona filed a lawsuit in August asking the court to restore his position and to reward him with at least $15,000 in damages, NewsTimes reported.

Bivona was fired in October 2014 after the Board of Education blamed him for failing to properly carry out his responsibility of overseeing the district’s finances, after an audit showed the district was using questionable business practices in their annual budgets, which was overspent by more than $1 million, Patch previously reported.

Regarding the district’s response denying Bivona’s allegations, Bivona’s attorney, Leon M. Rosenblatt, told NewsTimes that it was expected.
