BROOKFIELD, CT — Brookfield schools are closed Friday, following a bomb threat made to the schools, the Board of Education and some school officials' homes Friday morning.

The schools announced they were on a 2-hour delay initially to determine the credibility of the threat. Classes were later cancelled for the remainder of the day when it became "clear that more time is needed to conduct a thorough sweep of all the schools and town hall."

"We understand the disruption this causes, especially on such short notice, however, the safety of our learning community and citizens is the priority," Schools Superintendent John Barile said in an email to the school community.
