Brookfield Teacher In Running For 'America’s Favorite Teacher'

Brookfield, CT — Brookfield is beaming with pride as beloved educator Ruby Doswell has been named a quarterfinalist in the national America’s Favorite Teacher competition! With continued community support, Ruby could move on to the semi-finals—and she needs your votes to make it happen.

A Heart for Teaching

Ruby’s journey into education was inspired by the incredible teachers who shaped her own childhood and left a lasting impact.

“I always envied teachers growing up,” Ruby shares. “I had many that changed my life. I knew I wanted to be that person for someone else. You can always tell when a teacher not only loves to teach, but also genuinely loves their students. That’s who I strive to be—for every child who walks through my door.”

She has spent her career working in under-resourced communities, where the challenges are real—but the rewards are profound.

“Giving kids a reason to love school is everything,” she says. “There’s nothing more joyful, nothing more powerful, than watching a student light up because they believe in themselves.”

A Vision for Impact

If Ruby wins the $25,000 grand prize, she plans to use it to further support the communities she serves with care and intention.

“Throughout my career, I’ve worked to become a thoughtful and effective advocate for families of all backgrounds. This award would serve as a meaningful resource—one that I would invest intentionally until the right opportunity arises to make a significant impact. I believe deeply in using any privilege or platform I have responsibly, to uplift the communities I serve and to help create lasting change.”

About the Competition

America’s Favorite Teacher is a national competition that honors extraordinary educators making a difference in their schools and communities. Organized by Colossal Management, LLC, the contest awards a prize package valued at approximately $65,000, including:

• $25,000 Cash Prize
• Feature in Reader’s Digest
• 6-day/5-night Trip to Hawaii
• Virtual Assembly with Bill Nye, “The Science Guy”

The competition also supports The Planetary Society, a nonprofit working to advance space science and exploration.
