Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company Names Two To Fill Top Spots

The BVFC ​has promoted two members to its top spots, filling officer vacancies left by the recent retirement of Fire Chief Andrew Ellis.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company has promoted two members to its top spots, filling officer vacancies left by the recent retirement of Fire Chief Andrew Ellis.

Assistant Chief Derek Broadmeyer has been promoted to fire chief. Broadmeyer is a 14-year veteran of the department and served as an assistant chief since 2021.

Captain Eric Kettunen has been promoted to assistant chief. Assistant Chief Kettunen has served 15 years with the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company and has been a line officer since 2012. He was promoted to captain in 2023.

These promotions were effective Sept. 22, with the retirement of Ellis to focus on family, his career and education. Ellis will still be an active member in the department as a driver, firefighter and EMT, according to the news release from the BVFC.
