Brookfield Voters Approve $91.2M Budget With Tax Rate Increase
Brookfield voters OK $91.2M budget for 2025–26, funding police hires, school upgrades, and a 3.69% tax rate increase.
BROOKFIELD, CT — Voters in Brookfield approved a $91,175,774 municipal budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year during Tuesday’s referendum, paving the way for the addition of two police officers and improvements at Whisconier Middle School.
The approved budget represents a 4.31 percent increase over the current $87,405,597 spending plan, and will result in a 3.69 percent mill rate increase, from 27.90 mills to 28.93 mills.
The town operations portion of the budget, totaling $35 million, passed by a vote of 984 to 521. The $55 million school budget was approved with 929 in favor and 596 opposed, according to unofficial results from the town clerk’s office. Voters also approve $3,302,252 worth of capital improvements, with $2,881,675 coming from the financing of bonds and the remaining $420,577 to be transferred from the current fiscal year.
