Candlewood Lake Islands To Close This Week Amid Overcrowding And Safety Concerns
Candlewood Lake islands will close as officials cite overcrowding and safety concerns; enforcement by CLA and police.
BROOKFIELD, CT — All public islands on Candlewood Lake will be closed beginning Friday, Aug. 29, due to what officials described as “unsustainable misuse and overcrowding.”
The Candlewood Lake Authority said the closure is intended to address health and safety concerns that have grown in recent years. The move was announced on behalf of Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford and Sherman, with support from FirstLight, the lake’s owner.
The Candlewood Lake Authority Marine Patrol, along with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Environmental Conservation Police and municipal police departments, will enforce the ban.
