The Southern Connecticut Walk/Run in Stamford takes place Saturday, Sept. 24.

This September, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, individuals from over 60 communities nationwide will lace up their sneakers and hit the pavement to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In Stamford, participants will gather in Harbor Point Square in front of World of Beer and Paloma Restaurants on Saturday, Sept. 24 to kick off the annual St. Jude Walk and Run to End Childhood Cancer. For the sixth year in a row, CULTEC, Inc. of Brookfield is the presenting local sponsor.
Registration opens at 9:30 a.m., and the 5k walk and run will begin at 11 a.m. Ages 5 and under participate for free, and registration for all other ages is $10. Participants are encouraged to form teams and raise funds to help support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude, with incentives beginning at the $100 and $250 fundraising levels. To register and learn additional event details, visit the St. Jude Walk and Run website. So far, the Southern Connecticut Walk/Run has raised almost $75,000 in the form of both donations and scholarships, about 53 percent of the way towards its fundraising goal of $140,000.

“This event is so inspiring, and we love being involved year after year,” said Lisa Lynch, customer service representative at CULTEC and TEAM CULTEC Captain. “It’s great seeing community members come together for such a great cause, and the event underscores the importance of fundraising for research. Sponsoring this event and the wonderful charity behind it gives us all great pride.”
St. Jude is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food—because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Last year, Team CULTEC and other fundraisers raised over $112,109 for the Connecticut walk.
Nationally, all the community walks combined raised $8.2 million! While these numbers are impressive, it costs over $2 million dollars a day to run St. Jude. This is why CULTEC is seeking your donations for St. Jude. Donations may be made online.
In addition to St. Jude, CULTEC supports a number of other charities and local good causes, including Brookfield Lion Charities, Inc., Danbury Titans, Team Hole In The Wall, L4Kids.org, American Cancer Society, ALS, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics Connecticut, United Way: Sandy Hook School Support Fund, The Mission Continues, H.O.R.S.E. of CT, Brookfield High School - Sports Dept., Wounded Warrior Project, Marine Corps Family Foundation, Ridgefield Playhouse, CT AM Vets, St. Joseph School in Brookfield, Conn. and St. Joseph School Basketball in Danbury, Conn.
