Disabled Brookfielder Injured in Car Accident Works to Help Others Gain Independence

A Brookfield woman is working to enable people with disabilities gain independence and mobility through the use of specially educated dogs.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities, a Connecticut nonprofit, has paired a service dog with a Brookfield woman who suffered severe injuries as a result of a car accident. Victoria Angelo was paired with her service dog Goldie two years ago and is now working to enable people with disabilities to gain greater independence and mobility through the use of specially educated dogs.

Each dog is educated to meet the needs of veterans, at-risk youth, persons living with disabilities or in stressful circumstances, and children as young as two with Autism. Goldie helps Angelo have a certain measure of independence by picking up dropped items and helping her with strengthening and flexibility exercises.

Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities is holding an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 12 - 4 p.m. The event includes puppy petting, assistance dog demonstrations, summer camp information and more. Snacks will be available. Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities' address is 149 Newfield Road in Winchester.
