GoFundMe Campaign supports renaming of Brookfield VFW Post

Brookfield VFW Starts GoFundMe Campaign for Renaming of Post to the Jason. D. Lewis Memorial Post

(Jason D. Lewis Memorial Post 10201)

The Brookfield VFW recently announced the renaming of their Post to the Jason. D. Lewis Memorial Brookfield VFW Post 10201. Lewis, a former Brookfield resident, joined the Navy right out of High School and went on to complete Underwater Demolition/Seal Training. He was killed as a result of enemy action during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007. Lewis was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor.

Renaming of the Post was to honor his memory and devotion to duty. Post Commander Joseph Beal commenting on the renaming stated “Everything we do from this point as a post will be a reflection of Jason’s commitment to service.”

The organization is raising money through a GoFundMe for a plaque with the Post’s new name and a shadow box that will display Lewis’ patches, awards, and medals, including the Purple Heart he was given posthumously. In addition, a formal ceremony is planned for later on this summer.
