Naloxone Policy in the Works For Brookfield Schools: Report

Naloxone, better known by the brand name Narcan, is a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose.

BROOKFIELD, CT — In a move that mirrors one taken by the Fairfield school district, Brookfield's Board of Education is working to adopt a policy for the administration of naloxone, reports the News Times. The opioid overdose reversal drug better known by the brand name Narcan could be administered in the schools if a policy is adopted.

The move follows a similar one by the Fairfield school district, and school officials say other schools across the state are looking to do the same in response to the nationwide opioid epidemic. Board member Steven Harding, who is heading up the policy subcommittee, says he is not aware of anyone overdosing at Brookfield schools.
