New Urgent Care Center Opens Its Doors In Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, CT — A new Urgent Care Center opened Tuesday in Brookfield.

Nuvance Health-GoHealth Urgent Care opened at 132 Federal Road, feeding a demand for urgent care sites that surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has not much abated.

Urgent Care bridges the gap between primary care and emergency care, providing evaluation and care for urgent, but not emergent, conditions, according to the Urgent Care Trade Association. This includes treating minor burns, scrapes and cuts, but also treating conditions such as allergic reactions, ear infections and strep throat; providing X-ray imaging and lab services such as testing for COVID-19, STI’s, pregnancy and blood glucose as well support and treatment for mental health concerns and providing preventative services in the way of physicals and vaccinations.

As of July 2023, the total number of Urgent Care centers in the U.S. was 14,382, up from 7,220 centers just nine years earlier. Over 78 percent of the U.S. population lives within a 10-minute drive of an Urgent Care, enabled in part by the nearly 20 percent increase in Urgent Care centers in suburban areas between from 2019 to 2022

Erica DeMint, GoHealth Regional President, was delighted by the large turnout for Tuesday's ribbon-cutting. Attendees included State Rep. Marty Foncello, Selectman Bob Belden, brass from the Brookfield Police Department, members of the town's EMS team, and Brookfield’s Economic Development Commission.

"It means a lot to us that Brookfield leaders took the time out of their busy schedule to attend our grand opening today. It has been so much fun launching this center and we are very proud of the work we have done so far to care for the community. We are hoping to expand our reach and help more people as they continue to learn about us," DeMint said.
