O’Connor’s Brookfield Kicks Off Month Of St. Paddy’s Day Celebrations

The St. Patrick's Day celebrations kick off on Saturday, March 1 at Brookfield O'Connor's with Irish entertainment, step dancers & more!

BROOKFIELD, CT — A local Brookfield pub is kicking off a month-long celebration of Saint Patrick's Day events on Saturday, with the national anthem, live music and Irish step dancers beginning Saturday, March 1st at 1:00 p.m. at O'Connor’s Public House on Federal Rd. in Brookfield.

“I love Paddy’s Day because it's the beginning of the season after a long, cold winter. Everyone is Irish on Paddy's Day, everyone is happy. Being Irish makes it more fun,” said Samantha Goff, owner of O'Connor’s Public House.

Goff’s family, who hails from Counties Longford and Tyrone in Ireland, is what inspired her to purchase the establishment three years ago from former owner Bobby O’Connor who is from Blarney in County Cork.

“Legend has it that when my family came to America, they dropped the “Mc” from McGoff at Ellis Island but we don't know if that's family lore or truth. Either way, I'm proud to be Irish especially this time of year,” Goff said.

O’Connor, who opened the Brookfield location 17 years ago, said that he opened the pub in order to “bring that same warmth and mystique that encompasses all of the visitors to my family's establishment in Ireland. We wanted to bring an enjoyable atmosphere that transcends you back to a touch of Ireland and momentarily brings you back home.”

Goff previously worked at O'Connor’s in Pawling, New York and has been in the restaurant industry for more than 25 years.

“I started in the coat room at an event hall and then I moved on to services and parties working my way up to becoming a bartender for over 10 years,” Goff said, continuing, “I had been saving my money for a long time and when I found out the Brookfield location was for sale I jumped on the offer and haven't looked back. It's a tough industry and there are ebbs and flows in this business, but I have a good team behind me, and we like to have fun events for the town to spice things up,” Goff shared.
