Obituary: Lyckeltje De Haas, 87, Of Weston

Lyckeltje enjoyed travelling extensively, and she was an incredible cook – her specialty being Indonesian and Dutch dishes.

WESTON, CT — Lyckeltje De Haas, age 87, of Weston, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023. Born in Buitenpost, Netherlands on May 7, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Auke Snyder and Wilhelmina De Ruyter who last lived in Voorburg, Netherlands.

She was the beloved wife of Lieuwe de Haas. Lieuwe and Lyckeltje met in June 1952 when he saw her riding her bike with her girlfriends and asked for her home address which he later looked up and subsequently visited her, asking for a first date. The couple moved to Montreal in September 1955.

Lyckeltje is survived by her husband Lieuwe, daughters Wilhelmina de Haas of Venice, Florida and Yvonne Ferris of Westport, her grandchildren Nicole Thomas, Wren Ferris and Georgia Ferris as well as her nephew Peter Snyder Jr and his family of Sarasota, Florida and her niece Susanne Lamarche and her family in Edmonton, Canada. She is predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Pieter Snyder.

Lyckeltje was a wonderful seamstress when her daughters were younger and enjoyed sewing matching outfits for them. In later years, until her retirement, she was a bookkeeper at a local real estate firm. She and Lieuwe enjoyed travelling extensively, and she was an incredible cook – her specialty being Indonesian and Dutch dishes. She loved being surrounded by her family and was always asking about her grandchildren.

Lyckeltje will always be remembered for her youthful appearance and her joyful laughter. Her favorite colors were navy blue and kelly green. She always looked impeccable and was dressed immaculately. Both she and Lieuwe loved to host parties in the 1970s and 1980s and were very fond of dancing and enjoying the company of friends and family.

She will be greatly missed by her loving and faithful husband and all her family and friends. There is no one that will ever compare to Lieke de Haas.

Service and laying to rest will be held privately.
