One-Actor Show Festival "3X3" at Brookfield Theatre in October

In an ambitious stretch of theatrical arts, Brookfield Theatre is presenting three different one-actor shows on three successive weekends in October. Dubbed the "3X3 Festival", each show has been in rehearsal for nearly a full year, and rightly so with just one actor on stage for the duration of these full length plays. Considered the ultimate challenge for any actor, each show is a complete performance with intricate and nuanced storytelling.
The first featured show is "TRU" by Jay Presson Allen on October 6, 7, and 8. It is directed by Don Stitt who also stars in this portrait of Truman Capote. Adapted from the words and works of Truman Capote, "Tru"is set in the writer’s New York City apartment the week before Christmas
1975. An excerpt from Capote’s infamous unfinished roman à clef, "Answered Prayers", recently has been published in "Esquire". Having recognized thinly veiled versions of themselves, Manhattan socialites turn their backs on him. Alone and lonely, Capote—soothing himself with
pills, vodka, cocaine, and chocolate truffles—muses about his checkered life and career.

The star of the show, Don Stitt, is an American actor and playwright who has been featured in four Broadway musicals, appeared 20 times on the Late Show with David Letterman, and starred in countless commercials. In 2007 he presented his autobiographical solo-piece "The Voices in my Head Have Formed a Choir and Somebody's Singing Flat!" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
"TRU" is followed on the following weekend by August Wilson’s "How I Learned What I Learned" on October 13, 14, and 15. It is directed by Rae Janeil and stars Jeramie Gladman as August Wilson. The script is by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson and Todd Kreidler. This one-man comedy chronicles Wilson's life as a Black artist in the Hill District in Pittsburgh. From stories about his first jobs to his first loves and his experiences with racism, the play recounts his life through to the completion of The American Century Cycle. "How I Learned What I Learned" gives an inside look into one of the most celebrated playwriting voices of the twentieth century.
