THE SHOW:
2015 Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home is the coming-of-age story of lesbian author Alison Bechdel. It traces her life from her youth to her years at Oberlin College and finally to the present where Alison is writing her autobiography in graphic novel format. Alison reflects on her past, particularly her relationship with her father, Bruce, a closeted gay man and owner of the family business - Bechdel Funeral Home (known as “fun” home to Alison and her brothers). As she retraces her father’s self-loathing and how it consumes him, Alison recognizes her own experience of discovering and ultimately embracing her identity. As Fun Home progresses, Alison is drawn deeper into her memories, desperate but unable to reverse her father’s self-destruction. An unforgettable groundbreaking musical, Fun Home explores the haunting pull of memory and the power it has to alternately destroy or shape our identity. —StageAgent

April 5-–27
Shakespeare in Hollywood
by Ken Ludwig

Directed by Jane Farnol

From the author of Moon Over Buffalo and Lend Me A Tenor, Ken Ludwig’s Shakespeare In Hollywood is a celebration of stage and screen! It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Bros. Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play (who else?) themselves. With a little help from a feisty flower, blonde bombshells, movie moguls, and arrogant “asses” are tossed into loopy love triangles, with raucous results. The mischievous magic of moviedom sparkles in this hilarious comic romp.
Tentative audition dates February 18 & 19

June 28–-July 20
The Producers
A Mel Brooks Musical

Book by Mel Brooks & Thomas Meehan
Music & Lyrics by Mel Brooks
Original direction and choreograhpy by Susan Stroman
By special arrangement with StudioCanal

Directed by Craig David Rosen
Musical Director Sarah Fay

Winner of 12 Tony Awards! A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different people who become friends. With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music & lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”
Tentative audition dates April 14 & 15

September 13–-28
The Spitfire Grill
Music and Book by James Valcq
Lyrics and Book by Fred Alley
Based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff

A feisty parolee follows her dreams, based on a page from an old travel book, to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill. The Grill is for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy convinces Hannah to raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the Grill wins. Soon, mail arrives by the wheelbarrow and things really start cookin’ at the Spitfire Grill.
Tentative audition dates July 7 & 8

Nov 8–-23
Calendar Girls
By Tim Firth
Based on the Miramax motion picture by Juliette Towhidi and Tim Firth

Directed by Terry Sagedy

When Annie’s husband John dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new found fame.
