Additional Volunteers Sought for 100,000 Meal Project
Event set for Saturday, April 27.

As the Canton Lions Club works toward a day of preparing meals for the needy this weekend it is seeking additional volunteers.
The club is leading an effort to package 100,000 meals on Saturday, April 27 from 10 am. to 4 p.m. The meals, provided by Feeding Children Everywhere, cost 25 cents each and consist of lentils, rice, a blend of six dehydrated vegetables and pink Himalayan salt that are sealed into a bag. It provides six meals and only requires boiling water to prepare.
Teams gather in assembly line type formations to pack the meals.
So far, the community has shown a wide array of support leading up to the effort, both financially and by volunteering to help on Saturday, said Lions Club member Bob Bessel.
Recently, the Avon-Canton Rotary donated $500 and raised an additional $250 at a breakfast meeting. Teachers and students at Canton High School recently raised $900 by paying to wear jeans/pajamas to school. Those are just two examples of financial support.
Those who have signed on to send teams to help pack the meals include the Simsbury, Burlington and Harwinton, Avon and New Hartford Lions Clubs. Others helping include St. Patrick's Church, ShopRite, Canton Adolescents Taking Action (CATA), and the Avon-Canton Rotary.
