Anthony's Farm Expands to Canton

Anthony and Susan Napolitano working 8 acres at Historic Bristol's Farm.

After several years of farming some six acres in Simsbury, Anthony's Farm is expanding its operations to a portion of Bristol's Farm in Canton.

The Farm, run by Anthony and Susan Napolitano, is one of two leasing property at the historic farm along Route 44. The other is Serafina Says Farm.

The Napolitanos are leasing approximately 8 1/2 acres at the farm.

Anthony's Farm grows numerous vegetables such as kale, garlic, shallots, tomatoes, potatoes and more, selling to restaurants and retailers, including ShopRite in Canton.

The demand for its organically certified crops has been high and the farm had been looking to expand when he learned the property was up for lease, Anthony Napolitano said.

"We can't meet the demand," he said, adding that it is important to keep the quality high.

Napolitano said he will continue to sell in those markets but added that some items will be offered in the farm store, which will be run by members of the Bristol family.

He also offered a word of thanks to the family.

"The Bristols were very cooperative and kind in leasing to us," he said.

Anthony Napolitano added that he was saddened by the March death of David A. Bristol Sr. He said he was looking forward to getting to know Mr. Bristol better and gleaning knowledge from him.

"I was really looking forward to talking to the guy," he said.

Napolitano has hired 5 part-time workers and may take on a few more throughout the season. Most plants are currently in containers in the hoop house and the farm can begin transplanting into the fields once the ground warms a little bit more, he said.
