CANTON, CT — One week after fleeing a burning home in Canton over the Christmas weekend, authorities say a 1-year-old family dog is still missing.

The Canton Police Department, along with other area departments, have posted a new alert courtesy of the CT Dog Gone Recovery organization, which publicizes missing dogs to a wider audience.

On Friday, authorities indicated the beloved pet was still missing.

Local police are asking for the public's help in locating a dog missing since it fled a fire on East Mountain Road Christmas Eve.

According to the Canton Police Department, the family is asking for the safe return of their 25-pound white/brown Bernedoodle.

Police said the pooch was able to flee the fire by escaping through an open door.

The structure fire damaged a home on East Mountain Road, which was closed to traffic between Cherrybrook Road and East Hill Road on Sunday.

According to the latest alert, the dog has a collar with an ID tag.

Anyone who sees the dog or has the dog in custody is urged to call the CT Dog Gone Recovery group at 860-690-9360.
