Canton 2024 Election Results: Winners Revealed In Key Races

CANTON, CT — Shortly after the polls closed Tuesday night, vice President Kamala Harris was announced as the winner of Connecticut's seven electoral college votes, defeating former President Donald J. Trump and three other candidates, according to the Associated Press.

Also, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, won re-election and a third term in office, according to projections. He defeated GOP challenger Matthew M. Corey and two other candidates.

Votes are still being counted in other key races, including the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state General Assembly races.

CANTON, CT — The polls have closed, and now we wait for the results to come in through the night and likely into Wednesday morning for several key races.

All eyes, of course, are on the presidential race between main party candidates Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump Jr. Beyond the presidential race, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, is seeking reelection to a new six-year term and is being challenged by Matthew M. Corey, Justin C. Paglino, and Robert Finley Hyde.

Residents also voted for their local representative in the U.S. Congress, and their local state representative and senators in the General Assembly in Hartford.

Tuesday night's vote totals will also determine whether Connecticut will allow each person to vote by absentee ballot in future elections.

Here is a look at all the candidates and positions that were on the ballot in Canton:

• For President, the candidates were: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Democrat, Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance, Republican, Jill Stein and Butch Ware, Green Party, Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat, Libertarian, and Robert Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan, Petitioning candidate.

• For the United States Senate, the candidates were: Christopher S. Murphy, Democrat, and Matthew M. Corey, Republican. Murphy is also endorsed by the Working Families Party. Other candidates include Justin C. Paglino, Green Party, and Robert Finley Hyde, Cheaper Gas Groceries Party.

• For U.S. Congress, the candidates were U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-5th District (also endorsed by the Working Families Party), and Republican George Logan.

• For State Senator, the candidates were State Sen. Lisa Seminara, R-Avon, (also endorsed by the Independent Party), and Democratic challenger Paul Honig (also endorsed by Working Families Party).

• For State Representative, the candidateswere State Rep. Eleni Kavros DeGraw, D-Avon, (also endorsed by the Working Families and Independent parties) and Republican Manju Gerber.

• For Registrar of Voters, the candidates were Democrat Cynthia Zdanzukas and Republican Warren Humphrey.
