Canton Announces Labor Day Impacts
The unofficial last weekend of the summer is this weekend, with municipalities unveiling what will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2.
CANTON, CT — Canton officials have announced multiple closures locally related to the upcoming Labor Day holiday.
The Canton Public Library will be closed from Saturday to Monday, Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.
On the Labor Day holiday, all town departments and schools are closed on Monday, Sept. 2, for the holiday as well.

The holiday was born out of the nation's labor movement and has, since, evolved into the notion of summer's last hurrah for all.
It is always the first Monday in September and, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, it is "an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers."

"The holiday is rooted in the late 19th century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being," reads the U.S. Department of Labor website.
