The church recently installed the feature, in which folks are asked to 'take what you need, leave what you can.'

CANTON, CT — A local church has set up a unique way to help those in the community, especially those who are facing economic uncertainty.

The North Canton Community United Methodist Church has installed a "sharing shelf" outside its 3 Cast St. building.

A "sharing shelf" operates similarly to "Little Free Libraries," where users can simply receive a book and, upon return, are supposed to give a book back into circulation.

With a "sharing shelf," folks in need can use it to get food, and folks looking to help can stock it.

The motto is simple: “Take what you need, leave what you can.”
