Canton Educator Nominated In Teacher Appreciation Week Contest
If chosen as a winner, she'll receive a $1,000 classroom grant and gift bags for her students. Voting is open now through Friday.
CANTON, CT — A Canton teacher is among 24 finalists in a nationwide Teacher Appreciation Week contest, and if chosen as a winner she'll receive a $1,000 classroom grant.
Melanie Drinkwater, who teaches middle school science in the Canton Central School District, was nominated for the second annual Teacher Appreciation Week Contest.
Run by Teachers Federal Credit Union, more than 1,000 educators were nominated for the contest. Today, the credit union released its list of 24 finalists, divided evenly between three categories: Grades K-5, Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12 (Drinkwater is a nominee in the Grades 6-8 category).

"These finalists have been selected by students, parents, and colleagues for their exceptional teaching services," Teachers FCU officials said.
The finalists are put to a public vote — which begins today — and the four with the most votes in each category will receive a $1,000 grant and Teachers FCU gift bags for their students.

Voting is open through April 29, and the winners will be announced on May 3 on Teachers FCU's website and social media channels.
