Canton Election Results 2023: Republican Takes Top Spot

Thousands of Canton residents have cast their votes in the 2023 municipal election in a number of key races.

CANTON, CT — The polls have closed in Canton and the votes are being counted to determine numerous key races on the board of selectmen, board of finance, and school board.

The biggest race of the night featured a wide-open battle for first selectman, with Democrat Bob Namnoun taking on Republican Kevin Witkos to fill the post vacated by retiring Democratic incumbent Robert Bessel.

Canton First Selectman (vote for one)

Democrat: Bob Namnoum

Republican: Kevin Witkos

(Note: Incumbent Democratic Mayor Robert Bessel is not seeking re-election.)

UPDATE: Republican Kevin Witkos has defeated Democrat Bob Namnoum with 53 percent of the vote.

Canton Board of Selectmen (vote for two)

Democratic candidates are: Sarah Hague and Elizabeth Corklum Winsor.

Republican candidates are: Warren Humphrey and Timothy B. LeGeyt.

Board of Finance (vote for three)

Democratic candidates are: Brian Miller, Joseph Wire and Peg Berry.

Republican candidates are: Jordan Toussaint and Ken Humphrey.

Petitioning candidates are: Richard J. Barlow.

Board of Finance - two-year vacancy (vote for one)

Democrat: Katie Kenney.

Republican: Bill Canny.

Board of Education (vote for three)

Democratic candidates are: Erika Hayes, Joseph P. Scheideler and Lou Daniels.

Republican candidates are: Aubrey Blatchley, Kim M. Sullivan and Jennifer A. Diederich.

Board of Assessment Appeals (vote for one)
