Canton Food Bank Preps For SNAP Crisis

With the federal government about to cease food benefits for millions, including children and the elderly, the food bank says it is ready.

CANTON, CT — With millions in the U.S. about to lose their SNAP food assistance benefits this weekend, including seniors and children, the Canton Food Bank is mobilizing.

This week, officials with the food bank, which is located at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 55 River Road, Collinsville, said they will be able to lend a helping hand and their asking folks to help them as well.

"As SNAP benefits are supposed to lapse this weekend, the Canton Food Bank is gearing up to help any resident who needs food assistance," wrote the Canton Food Bank.

On Monday, Nov. 3, the food bank will have "grab-and-go" bags with fresh fruit, potatoes, and pantry basics available from 6 to 7 p.m.

Then on Tuesday, Nov. 4, the food bank will have those bags available from 8 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Clients need to bring an ID for proof of residency.

Meanwhile, the food bank will accept non-perishable donations when we are open or monetary donations so we can purchase perishable items.
