Canton Little League Puts Final Touch On New Softball Field
The Canton Board of Selectmen recently accepted a donation from Canton Little League to finish the relocation of the girls softball field.
CANTON, CT — An ongoing building project to create a Little League softball field in town received a major boost earlier this month from the Canton Little League.
The nonprofit organization donated $6,500 to the Town of Canton to officially complete the project, with the Canton Board of Selectmen accepting the donation Sept. 14.
Specifically, the donation will cover final landscaping at what used to be Dyer Field, but was renamed this year, and it would cover surveyor services, architectural services and the actual planting of plants.

Approved by the Canton Board of Finance in 2021, the project relocated the old Dyer Field, which was on Dyer Avenue, to land at Canton Middle/High School off Simonds Avenue.
The old Dyer site is being utilized for a new firehouse project in Collinsville.

In May, the new field on Simonds Avenue was renamed in honor of local baseball legend and longtime Canton Little League volunteer/official Stan Krzanowski.
Most of the work is done at the site and play began last spring.
But it wasn't completely finished.
Though the project funding approved by the town was $297,500 in 2021, a few more thousands of dollars were needed — cash that was donated by the Little League organization itself
