Canton PD Issues Snow Removal Rule Reminder

With the state expected to see snow on Tuesday, the Canton Police Department has already reminded folks to abide by a local snow ordinance.

CANTON, CT — With Tuesday looking like the quintessential snow removal day with an expected snowstorm, the Canton Police Department has recently reminded folks to abide by the law.

That's because, like many towns, Canton has several rules to follow when it comes to snow removal.

This comes in the form of a local ordinance regarding snow removal.

"The Canton Police Department would like to remind residents of the Town Ordinance regarding the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks," wrote the CPD recently.

If you have a sidewalk in front of residential/commercial property you own or rent, it is up to you to make sure it is clear within a set period after the snow falls.

People are also reminded to make sure their walkways are well sanded and/or salted to make them safe for pedestrians, police said.

Police will be out and about after the storm Tuesday to make sure people are abiding by the ordinance.

Violators could be fined up to $35 per offense, police said.

Meanwhile, the Canton Transfer Station will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 13, due to the winter storm. It will be open during regular hours on Thursday, Feb. 15.

The storm comes amid a relatively mild and snow-free winter. Initially, anywhere from 6-12 inches of snow was expected to hit the state Tuesday.

But a new storm track has decreased those figures, with WFSB Channel 3 predicting inch counts in the 2-4 inch range.

Those counts, however, slowly increased and, now, 6-10 inches is predicted.
